Modern football is driven by data. Behind every tactical decision, transfer negotiation, and training plan lies a layer of systematic analysis that separates elite coaching from guesswork. This course gives you the foundational skills to join that world — whether you aspire to work as a performance analyst, enhance your coaching, or simply understand the game at a deeper level. You will begin with the principles of objective performance measurement: why data-driven analysis matters, how it eliminates bias and subjective impressions, and how professional clubs use it to gain competitive advantages. You will explore real examples from top-level football to understand how analysis shapes match preparation, in-game decisions, and post-match reviews. The course then introduces the Tagging methodology — the industry-standard approach used by analysts at professional clubs worldwide. You will learn how to systematically break down a match into five distinct phases of play: build-up, attacking transition, attacking phase, defensive transition, and defensive shape. Within each phase, you will learn to identify and tag key events — passes, duels, pressing triggers, positional movements — creating a structured dataset from raw match footage. From there, you will move into performance evaluation. You will learn how to assess team-level performance using tactical KPIs (key performance indicators) such as possession efficiency, pressing success rates, and territorial dominance. You will also learn individual player analysis — evaluating contributions, decision-making patterns, and physical output using clear, measurable criteria. The course also covers how to present your analysis effectively: building concise match reports, creating visual summaries, and communicating insights to coaches, players, and technical staff in a way that drives actionable improvement. By the end of this course, you will be able to watch any football match and produce a structured, professional-grade analysis that identifies tactical patterns, highlights strengths and weaknesses, and provides concrete recommendations for improvement.
