Behind every world-class sports event — from continental championships to local tournaments — there is a management operation that coordinates thousands of moving parts. This course, taught by Mohamed Fadl, draws from real experience organizing major sports events to give you a complete, practical framework for sports event management. You will start with the strategic foundations: understanding the critical differences between leadership and management in a sports context, defining event objectives, and building an organizational structure that supports efficient decision-making under pressure. The course then takes you through end-to-end tournament planning. You will learn how to conduct venue assessments and stadium preparation, manage accommodation logistics for teams and delegations, coordinate transportation networks, and build comprehensive operational timelines. Each topic includes practical checklists and planning templates that you can adapt to your own events. Next, you will focus on the human element: recruiting, training, and managing volunteer teams; designing the spectator journey from ticket purchase through stadium entry, in-venue experience, and safe exit; and creating memorable fan engagement activations that elevate your event beyond the competition on the field. The course also covers the media and commercial side of sports management: setting up media operations and press facilities, coordinating television broadcast requirements, managing sponsor activations and contractual obligations, and handling communications during live events — including crisis scenarios. You will then explore the social responsibility dimension of sports events — including community engagement programs, sustainability initiatives, and inclusivity planning — followed by a detailed module on post-event evaluation: how to compile performance reports, measure success against KPIs, and capture lessons learned for future events. By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and practical tools to plan, execute, and evaluate a major sports event with professional confidence.
